Shibori is the Japanese art of manual resist dyeing, which produces beautiful patterns on fabric using indigo dye. Indigo is a natural dye made from plants, that gives a vibrant and beautiful blue colour when used to dye natural fibres and textiles.
In this workshop you'll learn the basics of Indigo vat dyeing using a pre prepared vat, exploring various different Shibori Techniques to create beautiful patterned textiles.
After making some samples on small pieces of fabric, you can then choose your preferred technique and prepare an item of your own. You can bring anything white or light coloured, that is made of natural fibres to use in the class, cotton or linen works best, and ensure they have been washed and dried in advance. Come away with a dyed upcycled garment, or fabric to make into something, like a scarf or cushion.
Remember to wear comfortable old clothes, covered shoes and bring along a smock or apron, long kitchen gloves and your imagination!
This workshop will start at 1pm and go till 4pm, and tea and coffee will be provided.
(Please note this class is weather dependant and will need to be rescheduled if rain is forecast, we will endeavour to give as much notice as possible)
